About

J. L. Atteia is a leading astrophysicist specializing in gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and the development of space-based observatories for their study. His research focuses on capturing the elusive prompt optical emission of GRBs—the earliest moments of these cataclysmic explosions—and designing multi-wavelength missions to observe them across the electromagnetic spectrum. Atteia made a landmark contribution with the continuous optical monitoring of GRB 060111B using the TAROT robotic observatory, achieving the first-ever temporal resolution of a few seconds during a burst’s prompt phase (53 citations). This breakthrough provided unprecedented insight into the physics of GRB progenitors. He is also a key architect of the SVOM mission (10 citations), a collaborative Chinese-French satellite project poised to revolutionize GRB studies with simultaneous multi-band observations.
