Anne-Marie Lanouette is a materials engineer whose research bridges advanced manufacturing and the extreme demands of space exploration. Her work centers on two key areas: additive manufacturing of multifunctional microsystems and the mechanical resilience of aerospace composites. Her most impactful contribution, the 2013 paper “Solvent‐Cast Three‐Dimensional Printing of Multifunctional Microsystems” (202 citations), introduced a novel solvent-cast direct-write technique. By robotically microextruding a thermoplastic polymer solution with rapid solvent evaporation, Lanouette enabled the fabrication of rigid, free-standing microstructures—a breakthrough that expanded the possibilities for 3D-printed microdevices in sensors and biomedical tools.
