About
Anders Kjellman is a urological oncologist whose research focuses on the surgical management of testicular cancer, particularly seminoma. He has emerged as a leading voice in efforts to reduce long-term treatment toxicity for patients with metastatic seminoma through the advocacy and clinical evaluation of retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) as a primary therapeutic strategy. Working within the Swedish Norwegian Testicular Cancer Group (SWENOTECA), Kjellman has contributed to population-based and collaborative international studies examining RPLND as an alternative to chemotherapy and radiotherapy for low-volume metastatic seminoma. His most cited work, published in 2024 and accumulating 19 citations, demonstrated the oncological efficacy and surgical safety of this approach in a real-world cohort — offering compelling evidence that surgery can spare patients from the significant long-term morbidities associated with cytotoxic treatments. A subsequent collaboration with the Cologne group further reinforced these findings across stages IIA–IIC disease. Kjellman's work addresses a meaningful clinical gap, reshaping how clinicians weigh treatment options for a curable cancer where survivorship quality matters profoundly. His contributions are establishing RPLND as a credible frontline option in contemporary seminoma management.
