About
Annika Hedlund is a leading urologic oncologist whose research focuses on reducing long-term toxicity in testicular cancer treatment, particularly for seminoma patients. Her major contributions center on establishing primary retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) as a safe, effective alternative to chemotherapy and radiotherapy for low-volume metastatic seminoma. Hedlund’s landmark 2024 study, drawing on the Swedish Norwegian Testicular Cancer Group (SWENOTECA) population-based cohort, demonstrated that RPLND can spare patients from the significant long-term morbidities associated with cytotoxic therapies while maintaining excellent oncological outcomes.
