About
Amit A. Nagarkar is a pioneer in the emerging field of elastic-instability–enabled locomotion and soft robotics. His research focuses on harnessing mechanical instabilities—such as buckling and snapping—to create simple, electronics-free robots that move autonomously. In his landmark 2022 paper on a “buckling-sheet ring oscillator,” Nagarkar demonstrated how a single, constant pneumatic input can generate complex, multimodal locomotion without any electronic controllers or hard valves. This work, which has garnered 86 citations, represents a paradigm shift in soft robotics by replacing traditional control systems with purely mechanical intelligence.
