About
Ahu Shao is a rising leader in next-generation battery technology, specializing in the interfacial and molecular engineering of electrolytes and separators for high-performance aqueous and solid-state metal batteries. Her research tackles critical challenges in energy storage, including structural degradation, parasitic side reactions, and self-discharge in rechargeable aqueous zinc batteries (RAZBs). In her highly cited 2024 work, Shao introduced an ultrathin (9 µm) molecular-engineered separator that enables multiscale interfacial regulation, achieving stable operation in Zn-V₂O₅ pouch cells—a breakthrough for practical RAZB deployment. She has also advanced room-temperature solid sodium metal batteries by designing composite polymer electrolytes that coordinate Na⁺ diffusion with multiscale interfacial engineering, overcoming long-standing issues of low ionic conductivity and high-voltage instability. With over 60 citations in just two years, Shao’s work is rapidly shaping the field. Her contributions are pivotal for developing safer, more durable energy storage systems, and her innovative approach to interface design positions her as a key figure in the transition toward sustainable, high-energy-density batteries.
