About

Agnes Axelsson is a leading researcher in human–robot interaction (HRI), specializing in co-adaptive systems, multimodal feedback, and the social integration of robots in public spaces. Her work centers on how robots and humans can dynamically adjust to one another during real-time conversation and cooperation. In her highly cited review “Modeling Feedback in Interaction With Conversational Agents—A Review” (27 citations), she systematically analyzed how intelligent agents interpret and respond to human feedback to ensure mutual understanding. Her foundational work on co-adaptive human–robot cooperation, summarized in a 2021 paper (16 citations), laid the groundwork for adaptive frameworks in shared environments. Axelsson also developed fully automated presentation systems for social robots acting as museum guides, as shown in “Do You Follow?” (16 citations), and explored multimodal user feedback during robot-led art presentations (13 citations). Notably, she has investigated the role of social robots in autonomous buses, addressing passenger safety and comfort in the absence of human drivers. Her field trials in Stockholm (2024–2025) represent pioneering efforts to deploy robots as hosts in public transport. With over 80 total citations, Axelsson’s work is shaping the future of socially aware, co-adaptive robotics.
