A. Pedotti’s research career bridges two seemingly distinct worlds: the precision of medical physics and the intelligence of computer vision, all united by a deep fascination with human movement. His foundational work in movement analysis began with the ELITE system (1991), a pioneering, goal-oriented vision system for detecting moving objects in real-time. This system, which used a convolution-based hardware processor, laid crucial groundwork for modern motion capture and gait analysis. Pedotti’s impact in clinical radiotherapy is equally significant. His highly cited 2011 study on intra-fraction setup variability rigorously compared infrared optical localization with X-ray imaging in 87 hypofractionated patients, directly informing safer, more accurate stereotactic treatments.
