A. Fernando Almansa is a prominent atmospheric scientist whose research centers on aerosol optical depth (AOD) measurement, photometry, and the development of innovative instrumentation for atmospheric monitoring. Based primarily at the Izaña Atmospheric Observatory in Tenerife, Spain, Almansa has made transformative contributions to both daytime and nocturnal aerosol characterization — a particularly challenging frontier in atmospheric science. Among his most celebrated achievements is his central role in evaluating the Cimel CE318-T multiband photometer, the first instrument capable of continuous sun-sky-lunar photometric measurements across a full diurnal cycle, garnering over 186 citations.
