About
Zijin Zeng is pioneering the next generation of medical microrobotics, with a focused expertise in magnetic control systems for both capsule endoscopy and targeted drug delivery. His work addresses two critical challenges in minimally invasive medicine: achieving high-precision, multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) motion control and accurate localization of therapeutic robots. In his highly cited 2023 paper, Zeng constructed a human-sized magnetic control system enabling 5-DOF motion for capsule endoscope robots, a breakthrough for navigating the complex environment of the human stomach. To solve the equally vital problem of localization, he introduced a novel Dung Beetle Optimizer algorithm in 2024, achieving high-precision positioning for magnetic-controlled capsule robots (MCRs)—a key enabler for reliable diagnostics. Beyond gastrointestinal applications, Zeng is advancing cancer therapy; his 2023 work proposes a drug delivery strategy using a magnetically controlled nanorobotic swarm loaded with temozolomide to breach the blood-brain barrier for glioma treatment.
