About
Dr. Yosuke Mitsui is a leading urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on improving functional outcomes after robotic prostate cancer surgery. His research focuses on the critical intersection of pelvic anatomy, sarcopenia, and post-operative quality of life. Dr. Mitsui’s most impactful contribution is his pioneering use of pelvic magnetic resonance imaging parameters to predict urinary incontinence following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), a study that has garnered 36 citations and provides clinicians with a novel, anatomy-based tool for preoperative counseling. He has further explored how sarcopenia—or low skeletal muscle mass—impacts both erectile function and urinary continence after nerve-sparing RARP, with his 2020 study on the subject receiving 8 citations. Beyond prostate cancer, Dr. Mitsui has advanced the field of robotic renal surgery. He performed the first robotic renal autotransplantation outside of North America for a complex ureteral stricture and validated the technique in a porcine model. His work on 3-D volumetric measurement for predicting renal function after partial nephrectomy (14 citations) and his analysis of pathological upgrading in Gleason grade group 1 prostate cancer (13 citations) further demonstrate his commitment to precision and improved patient outcomes.
