About
Xue’s research sits at the intersection of robotics, intelligent sensing, and manufacturing automation, with a focus on enabling machines to perceive and act in complex environments. A landmark contribution is the 2017 paper on a vision-centered multi-sensor fusion approach for self-localization and obstacle perception in robotic cars, which has garnered 17 citations. This work demonstrates how integrating camera data with other sensors can enhance autonomous vehicle navigation in real-world settings. Earlier, Xue broke new ground in manufacturing with a 2007 study introducing fuzzy regression models to predict bead geometry in robotic gas metal arc welding—cited 11 times. By modeling relationships between process variables and weld quality features like bead height and penetration, this work addressed longstanding challenges in sensor technology and mathematical modeling, paving the way for more adaptive, AI-driven welding systems. Together, these contributions highlight Xue’s ability to bridge theoretical modeling and practical robotics, advancing both autonomous mobility and precision manufacturing.
