About

Takunori Taira is a pioneering force in the development of compact, high-power laser systems and their industrial applications. His research centers on microchip laser technology, laser peening, and advanced thermal management for solid-state lasers. Taira’s major contribution is the invention of the “distributed face cooling” (DFC) chip, which enables tiny integrated lasers to achieve over 30 MW peak power—a breakthrough validated by finite element analysis and cited 33 times.
