Sindhu Ravindranath is a leading voice in the movement to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into the fabric of human-robot interaction (HRI). Her research critically examines how the development of AI and robotic technologies can inadvertently exacerbate societal biases and discrimination against underrepresented groups. Rather than treating DEI as an afterthought, Ravindranath’s work positions it as a foundational design requirement for creating ethical, real-world robotic systems. Her most-cited paper, “Inclusive HRI II” (2023), has garnered 11 citations and serves as a cornerstone for this emerging subfield, arguing that neglecting these factors perpetuates systemic harm. She has also been instrumental in organizing the 3rd and 4th workshops on Inclusive HRI, helping to build a community of practice dedicated to equitable design, application, and methods.
