R. Santer is a leading expert in satellite remote sensing, specializing in atmospheric correction and aerosol characterization for Earth observation. His research focuses on developing and validating algorithms that enable accurate retrieval of surface properties from space-based sensors, particularly over land and coastal waters. Santer’s most significant contribution is the design and deployment of the ROSAS (RObotic Station for Atmosphere and Surface characterization) system at the La Crau test site in 1997, a pioneering automated station for vicarious calibration of SPOT cameras that has been cited 33 times.
