R. C. Nichol is a leading observational cosmologist whose work has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of dark energy and the large-scale structure of the universe. His research centers on designing and executing massive spectroscopic surveys to map galaxies and quasars across cosmic time. Nichol was a key figure in the BigBOSS experiment (now DESI), a Stage IV ground-based project that uses baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) to probe dark energy’s nature.
