About
Dr. Niklas Westhoff is a leading urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques, particularly in robotic-assisted urology. His major contributions lie in generating high-quality, randomized evidence to compare robotic procedures with traditional open or endoscopic approaches. Westhoff is the principal investigator of the landmark ROBOCOP II trial, the first randomized controlled feasibility study to compare robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) with open partial nephrectomy, demonstrating the feasibility of such trials and providing crucial early data on surgical outcomes and quality of life. He also leads the PELYCAN trial, a phase 3 randomized study investigating a peritoneal flap to prevent lymphoceles after robotic prostatectomy.
