About
J.Y. Sun is a researcher focused on advancing the dynamic performance and stiffness modeling of industrial robots for precision machining applications. His work addresses a critical challenge in manufacturing: improving the rigidity and vibrational behavior of serial robots to make them viable alternatives to traditional machine tools. Sun’s most significant contribution is a novel method for predicting the natural frequency of 6R industrial robots at any given configuration, published in 2020 and cited 16 times. This work directly enhances the ability to optimize robot dynamic behavior during machining, a key factor in achieving high-quality surface finishes. He has also developed a measured stiffness performance evaluation index specifically for side milling operations, and contributed to the theoretical understanding of translation stiffness in serial robots. By tackling the directional dependencies and limitations of traditional stiffness models, Sun’s research provides practical pathways for expanding the use of flexible, cost-effective industrial robots into high-precision manufacturing tasks, bridging the gap between robotic flexibility and machining accuracy.
