About
Dr. Giulia Tenti is a pioneering surgeon whose work has redefined the surgical management of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Her research focuses on minimally invasive, transoral robotic techniques for upper airway reconstruction. Dr. Tenti’s major contributions center on developing and refining a multi-level robotic approach to treat OSA, moving beyond traditional, more invasive procedures. Her seminal 2012 paper, “Transoral robotic surgery: Tongue base reduction and supraglottoplasty for obstructive sleep apnea,” with 24 citations, established a foundational protocol for robotic tongue base reduction and supraglottoplasty. Building on this, her 2011 study, “Transoral Robotic Geniohyoidpexy as an Additional Step of Transoral Robotic Tongue Base Reduction and Supraglottoplasty,” demonstrated the feasibility of incorporating a robotic geniohyoidpexy to more completely replicate the outcomes of the classic Chabolle operation—all through a transoral approach. This work represents a significant step toward a fully robotic, less morbid surgical solution for OSA. Dr. Tenti’s innovative cadaver model studies have been instrumental in proving the technical viability of these advanced procedures, paving the way for future clinical applications and improving patient recovery.
