Brian Lee is an observational astronomer whose work has made significant contributions to time-domain astronomy and the study of transient celestial phenomena. He is best known for his central role in the Northern Sky Variability Survey (NSVS), a landmark public data release from 2004 that catalogued the optical variability of the sky across magnitudes 8 to 15.5. Conducted as part of the pioneering Robotic Optical Transient Search Experiment (ROTSE-I), this survey provided the astronomical community with an invaluable temporal record of the northern sky, earning over 540 citations and becoming a cornerstone resource for variability studies.
