Bernhard Vodermayer is a versatile robotics researcher whose work spans two compelling frontiers: assistive medical robotics and autonomous planetary exploration. At the intersection of biomedical engineering and human-machine interfaces, his early contributions focused on wearable electromyography (EMG) systems for prosthetic hand control, developing low-cost, multichannel surface EMG devices that advanced the reliability of myocontrol for amputees — work that has garnered over 180 combined citations.
