About

Afeesh Rajan Unnithan is a biomedical engineer whose research sits at the intersection of advanced materials, drug delivery, and magnetic actuation. His work focuses on designing smart, functional biomaterials for controlled therapeutic release and precision manipulation at the microscale. Unnithan’s most cited study, “Creation of a functional graded nanobiomembrane using a new electrospinning system for drug release control” (2015, 14 citations), introduced an innovative electrospinning approach to fabricate gradient nanomembranes capable of precisely modulating drug release kinetics. This work demonstrated both the fabrication technique and in vitro validation, offering a platform for next-generation wound dressings and implant coatings. In a complementary study (2018, 5 citations), he engineered an electromagnetic manipulation system to actuate bioengineered magnetic micro/nanoparticles, opening avenues for targeted therapy and minimally invasive interventions. Though early in his career, Unnithan’s contributions are notable for bridging materials engineering with biomedical application, and his work has been cited in contexts ranging from controlled release systems to magnetic actuation. His research continues to push the boundaries of how we design and control therapeutic delivery at the nanoscale.
