Abstract

This paper proposes a strategy for movement control of the robot assisted sink node in wireless sensor networks. As a basic condition, the mobile sink node knows the coordinates, the residual energies and the degrees of all the static sensor nodes. A weight is defined for each node dependent on its transmitting power, residual energy and degree. By the relocation strategy, the mobile sink moves towards the weight center (TWC) of all the nodes within its coverage. Average power savings given by our strategy TWC and the Markov chain based robot-assisted weighted relocation algorithm (MRWR) are compared. The comparison shows that TWC can save more than 30 percent total transmission power for those static sensor nodes which are kept connected to the mobile sink before and after its relocation.
