About

Chryssis Georgiou is a leading researcher in distributed computing, wireless sensor networks (WSN), and the Internet of Things (IoT). His work bridges foundational theory and practical system design, with a focus on coordination, fault tolerance, and energy efficiency. Georgiou’s most influential contribution is his 2013 paper on gathering “fat” mobile robots in the plane, which has garnered 97 citations. In this work, he tackled the challenging problem of coordinating non-transparent, unit-disc robots in an asynchronous setting using only local vision, formalizing the process with a state-machine approach—a significant advance for autonomous multi-robot systems. More recently, Georgiou has addressed critical issues in WSN and IoT networks, including path disconnections, node faults, and security attacks. His 2022 paper on node placement using mobile nodes (9 citations) and his 2021 work on energy-efficient mechanisms for reusing mobile nodes (3 citations) propose practical solutions to enhance network resilience and longevity. By integrating mobile nodes to dynamically repair and optimize network topology, Georgiou’s research offers scalable, energy-aware strategies that are vital for the next generation of autonomous and IoT-enabled systems.
