Abstract
A novel rotary magnetorheological (MR) damper for a tremor-suppression robot was presented.Base on properties of MR fluid and magnetic core material,a magnetic circuit design method suitable for the damper structure was employed. The magnetic circuit was designed using this method, the mechanical and the electric parameters of the damper were calculated.According to the damper structural characteristics,a 3D model of the damper was built with ANSYS APDL,after completing the magnetic solution, the magnetic and mechanic performance parameters of the damper were obtained. With the results of the magnetic analysis and the constitutive relations, the performance prediction of the damper was realized. Then the test system for the MR damper and its mechanical performance was developed, the mechanical performance of the damper was studied using the test system, the damper's properties:torque vs rev and yield torque vs current were obtained, and these results was analyzed, they showed that the mechanical performance of the MR damper is similar to that expected.
