Abstract
Actuators and sensors are basic devices for producing and controlling motion in robotic and manipulation mechanisms. While sensors convert energy into electrical signals, actuators reverse this process by converting electrical signals into mechanical forces. A sensor provides a measure of the physical quantities of the surrounding environment, whereas an actuator produces a motion in response to these physical quantities. Together, both types of devices play the important role of interfacing between the mechanism and the physical world.
