Abstract

The advent of robotics in science has ushered in a technological revolution in the current era. The medical field has been greatly aided by the development of artificial muscle robots. This paper presents a comprehensive understanding of the McKibben artificial muscle pneumatic actuator. This device was invented in the 1950s for the purpose of assisting handicapped individuals with their hands. It is composed of a contractile tube wrapped in a mesh thread. This study provides a descriptive analysis of the McKibben artificial muscle pneumatic actuator and its static model with and without friction consideration, as well as a description of the corresponding control strategies. Due to its promising technology, the paper also discusses its applications in medicine, industries, and biosystems.
