Indoor Positioning System Using Smartphone and 360° Camera

With the increasing supply of Smartphones, location-based service technologies based on user location information are attracting attention, and research on indoor location tracking technology is being actively conducted. This paper presents the Internal Measurement Unit (IMU) that is intended for incorporation in a Smartphone and that can be used to determine walking conditions, such as the distance walked and walking direction, to determine the exact indoor location of a person. To construct an indoor navigation system, we used a vision-based indoor positioning system that involves the use of image data acquired from Smartphone camera. While using Smartphone for filming indoor spaces is cheaper than using robot, it is time-consuming and inefficient for the development and research of indoor location estimation systems. To compensate for these shortcomings, images taken with Smartphone were used to check if there was no problem using images with 360° camera. These images were compared to each other to determine the accuracy of matching, And the accuracy of the location and the time it took to locate it were measured. Compared with conventional Wi-Fi fingerprint location technology [1], the maximum position error rate was lower by about 2%, the average position error rate was lower by about 5%, and the initial positioning time was shortened.
