摘要
Mobility disabilities are prevalent in our aging society and impede activities important for the independent living of elderly people and their quality of life. Over the years, several mobility assistance robots have been developed. This review focuses on mobility assistance robots of rollator type and reviews their platforms and functionalities. The systems are grouped according to their actuation, kinematic structure, as well as employed sensors and human–machine interfaces. Reviewed functionalities include sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit assistance, walking assistance, locomotion and navigation assistance, and some further functionalities that don't fall into any of the aforementioned categories. Different implementations of these functionalities are discussed followed by a final summary of the current state of the art in the field and possible future directions.
