About
Robot welding refers to the use of automated robotic systems to perform welding operations — joining metal components through processes such as arc welding, spot welding, friction stir welding, and gas tungsten arc welding — with minimal or no human intervention. In robotics and AI, these systems integrate manipulator arms, vision sensors, path planning algorithms, and machine learning to autonomously detect weld seams, track joint geometry in real time, and adapt welding parameters to maintain quality. Techniques like structured-light sensing, stereo vision, and deep convolutional neural networks enable robots to locate seams accurately, detect defects on-line, and navigate complex multi-pass welding paths derived from point cloud models or CAD data. Digital twin frameworks further support human-robot collaboration and process monitoring. Robot welding matters because it improves consistency, safety, and throughput in demanding manufacturing environments — eliminating worker exposure to heat, fumes, and arc radiation — while enabling the precision and repeatability required for high-quality, large-scale fabrication in automotive, aerospace, and construction industries.
