Yves Balkanski is a leading climate scientist whose research focuses on the global cycling of atmospheric aerosols and their profound impact on Earth's radiative balance. His key contributions center on modeling the lifecycle and direct radiative effects of major aerosol species, including sulfate, black carbon (BC), organic matter, and mineral dust. Balkanski’s seminal 2005 paper, with 193 citations, provided a foundational estimate of global multicomponent aerosol optical depth using the LMDZT GCM, establishing a benchmark for aerosol-climate modeling.
