About
Yuye Liu is a neuroscientist whose research focuses on the neural circuitry of epilepsy, particularly temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), and the therapeutic mechanisms of deep brain stimulation (DBS). Her major contributions center on understanding how DBS of the anterior nucleus of the thalamus (ANT-DBS) modulates subcortical networks to alleviate seizures and protect brain tissue. In her most cited work (25 citations), she demonstrated that ANT-DBS relieves basal ganglia dysfunction in a non-human primate model of TLE, providing crucial mechanistic insight into how thalamic stimulation disrupts seizure propagation. Complementing this, her study on ANT-DBS-induced neuroprotection (14 citations) revealed that the therapy activates autophagy in hippocampal neurons, identifying a novel cellular pathway for seizure-induced damage mitigation.
