About

Dr. Yuechun Shi is a leading researcher at the intersection of photonics, precision manufacturing, and biomedical sensing. Her work centers on developing advanced optical systems for automated inspection, wearable health monitoring, and next-generation neuromorphic computing. Dr. Shi’s most impactful contribution is an automated optical inspection (AOI) platform for detecting three-dimensional defects on glass micro-optical components (GMOCs), a critical innovation for ensuring quality in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical transceivers. This work, published in 2023, has already garnered 18 citations, underscoring its importance to the manufacturing sector. She also pioneered a novel wearable knee joint angle monitoring sensor based on a Mach–Zehnder interferometer using triple-clad fiber, achieving 8 citations for its potential in rehabilitation and motion tracking. Most recently, Dr. Shi has ventured into photonic neural networks, proposing a self-activated MAC function using DFB-SA lasers for multimodal recognition—a promising approach to overcoming the energy and speed limitations of traditional electronic processors. Her research seamlessly bridges fundamental photonics with real-world applications, from industrial quality control to human health monitoring and artificial intelligence.
