About
Yuanyuan Yao is a leading researcher at the intersection of wireless communications, the Internet of Things (IoT), and computer vision, with a focus on enabling intelligent, energy-efficient systems for next-generation networks. Her work is characterized by innovative applications of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and deep learning to solve critical challenges in connectivity and automation. Yao’s most influential contribution, with 29 citations, is her pioneering study on energy efficiency in heterogeneous IoT systems integrated with UAV swarms. This work introduced a novel framework where UAVs act as flying robot swarms to wirelessly transfer power to energy-constrained IoT transmitters, significantly enhancing network sustainability and performance. In parallel, her research in visual tracking, notably the development of a Siamese Feature Pyramid Network, has advanced the reliability of robotic-assisted surgery within 5G-health environments. By addressing the complexity of correlation filter methods in convolutional neural networks, her work has laid the groundwork for more robust and efficient visual tracking systems. Through these contributions, Yao is shaping the future of autonomous, energy-aware, and intelligent networked systems.
