About

Yu Lei is a rising leader in the field of liquid metal (LM) engineering, with a focused research program dedicated to overcoming the fundamental processing challenges that have long hindered the practical application of these materials. His primary contributions lie in the development of advanced stabilization and functionalization strategies for LM micro/nano droplets, directly addressing issues of leakage, poor adhesion, and high surface tension. Lei’s landmark work, "Transportable, Endurable, and Recoverable Liquid Metal Powders with Mechanical Sintering Conductivity," has garnered 30 citations for introducing a transformative powder form that enables mechanical sintering for flexible electronics and electromagnetic interference shielding. In a complementary 2023 study (28 citations), he pioneered a bimetallic ions chelation strategy to create robust, wrappable shells around LM droplets, significantly enhancing their durability for energy harvesting applications. By transforming liquid metals from problematic fluids into robust, processable powders, Yu Lei is paving the way for their reliable integration into next-generation flexible electronics, soft robotics, and wearable biomedical devices.
