About

Yongshen Zhou is pioneering the next generation of smart textiles through bioinspired nanostructures and advanced materials chemistry. His research centers on integrating metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with flexible fabrics, creating multifunctional systems that combine superhydrophobicity, energy harvesting, and environmental responsiveness. In his highly cited 2025 work, Zhou developed a mechanically robust AgTCNQ-MOF hybrid textile via in situ self-assembly, mimicking cactus spine structures to achieve exceptional water repellency while maintaining breathability and durability. This bioinspired approach, which has already garnered 6 citations, enables textiles that can simultaneously repel liquids, harvest ambient energy, and respond to environmental stimuli—a breakthrough for wearable technology. Zhou’s contributions bridge the gap between fundamental MOF chemistry and practical textile engineering, offering scalable solutions for self-cleaning, adaptive clothing and smart uniforms. His work is particularly notable for demonstrating how nature’s design principles can be translated into high-performance, low-cost materials. By achieving an ultrasmall bandgap in the MOF component, Zhou has opened new pathways for integrating energy conversion directly into everyday fabrics, positioning him as a rising leader in the field of functional textiles and bioinspired materials.
