About
Yanlong Peng is at the forefront of sustainable robotics, specializing in the autonomous disassembly of end-of-life electric vehicle batteries (EOL-EVBs) — a critical challenge for green manufacturing and the circular economy. His research integrates autonomous mobile manipulators, computer vision, and artificial intelligence to create intelligent systems capable of handling the complexity and variability of real-world battery recycling. Peng’s most cited work, "An Accurate Activate Screw Detection Method for Automatic Electric Vehicle Battery Disassembly" (2023, 29 citations), addresses a fundamental bottleneck by enabling robots to reliably locate and manipulate fasteners on diverse battery pack designs. He further advanced the field with the design of BEAM-1, a purpose-built Autonomous Mobile Manipulator Robot that adapts to dynamic disassembly environments. Demonstrating a forward-looking approach, Peng has also pioneered the use of Large Language Models to enhance robot task planning, moving beyond rigid, pre-programmed logic. His latest work introduces a NeuroSymbolic system that learns from experience to efficiently remove structural bolts, pushing toward fully autonomous, adaptive recycling. With a growing citation impact, Peng’s contributions are directly enabling the safe, efficient, and scalable recycling infrastructure needed for the electric vehicle revolution.
