About
Vincenzo Obiso is a leading researcher in atmospheric aerosol science, with a focus on the complex role of desert dust in the Earth’s climate system. His work centers on mineral dust composition, its radiative effects, and the critical uncertainties in how these are represented in Earth system models (ESMs). A major contribution is his leadership in developing the MONARCH high-resolution reanalysis of desert dust over Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Europe (2007–2016), a landmark dataset that has garnered over 22 citations for addressing the scarcity of in situ dust measurements.
