About
V. S. Dhillon is a leading figure in time-domain astrophysics, specializing in the development of robotic telescope systems for the detection of optical transients. His most significant contribution is his leadership of the Gravitational-wave Optical Transient Observer (GOTO) project, a wide-field telescope network designed to rapidly identify optical counterparts to gravitational-wave sources. With a field of view of 40 square degrees per mount, GOTO uses arrays of 40 cm unit telescopes on robotic mounts to efficiently scan the sky. Dhillon also pioneered the *pt5m* telescope, a 0.5 m robotic facility on La Palma that provides high-quality, automated observing.
