Umberto Veronesi was a visionary surgical oncologist whose pioneering work transformed the treatment of breast cancer. His key research areas centered on breast-conserving surgery and intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT), fundamentally challenging the dogma that radical mastectomy was the only effective treatment.
