Stefano Zurrida is a pioneering breast cancer surgeon whose work has fundamentally reshaped the landscape of oncologic surgery, particularly in the realms of conservative treatment and minimally invasive techniques. His research centers on optimizing surgical outcomes while preserving quality of life, with major contributions in intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) and robotic-assisted mastectomy. Zurrida’s landmark 2001 study on IORT for limited-stage breast cancer, cited over 280 times, demonstrated that targeted radiation during surgery could effectively replace weeks of postoperative therapy, dramatically reducing treatment burden.
