About
Tsun-Cheng Huang is a pioneer in the integration of autonomous robotics with civil infrastructure monitoring. His primary research areas include pavement engineering, autonomous mobile robotics, and precision positioning systems. Huang’s most significant contribution is his groundbreaking work on using autonomous robots to measure the International Roughness Index (IRI)—a critical standard for evaluating pavement ride quality. In his highly cited 2009 study (27 citations), he demonstrated that a modified Pioneer P3-AT robot, equipped with odometers, a CCD laser, and a SICK sensor, could reliably capture longitudinal pavement profiles, effectively replacing traditional, labor-intensive methods.
