Toshikazu Takahashi is a leading figure in diabetic nephropathy research, with a focused expertise in the molecular mechanisms underlying kidney damage in diabetes. His seminal 2004 study, cited 53 times, was among the first to demonstrate that advanced glycation end products (AGEs) drive renal fibrosis by upregulating HSP47, a collagen-specific chaperone protein.
