Sunny Sethi is a pioneering researcher in the field of bioinspired nanomaterials, with a focus on carbon nanotube (CNT) architectures for advanced surface engineering. His work bridges fundamental materials science and practical applications, particularly in creating super-adhesive and superhydrophobic surfaces. Sethi’s most celebrated contribution is the development of a synthetic “gecko tape,” detailed in his 2007 paper (438 citations). By transferring micropatterned CNT arrays onto flexible polymer tape, he replicated the hierarchical structure of a gecko’s foot, achieving a shear stress of 36 N/cm²—nearly four times that of the natural gecko foot. This breakthrough demonstrated the immense potential of CNTs in dry adhesives. In a subsequent 2009 study (124 citations), Sethi extended his expertise to superhydrophobic conductive CNT coatings for steel. These coatings, composed of CNT-mesh structures, retained their water-repellency and structural integrity under extreme thermal stress, while also offering excellent electrical and thermal conductivity.
