About

Silvia Moretto is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose work centers on the application of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for the management of oropharyngeal and recurrent head and neck carcinomas. Her major contributions lie in advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques, most notably through her landmark study on transoral robotic retropharyngeal lymph node dissection (RND) for recurrent disease. This work, which has garnered 15 citations, provides a critical step-by-step demonstration of the TORS approach using the daVinci Si system, offering a less morbid alternative for a traditionally challenging anatomical region. Moretto has also broken new ground in the field of liquid biopsy, as evidenced by her 2025 study on circulating HPV DNA in patients undergoing TORS for oropharyngeal cancer. This research, with 7 citations, explores the potential of liquid biopsy to identify molecular residual disease, a concept that could revolutionize post-treatment surveillance and early detection of recurrence. By merging surgical innovation with molecular diagnostics, Moretto is shaping a future where robotic precision and real-time biomarkers work in concert to improve outcomes for head and neck cancer patients.
