About

Si Wei Feng is a roboticist whose research bridges the gap between theoretical optimality and practical real-time performance in autonomous manipulation and multi-robot coordination. His primary contributions lie in three interconnected areas: optimal pick-and-place on moving conveyors, perimeter guarding with heterogeneous robot teams, and rearrangement planning with minimal buffer space. Feng’s landmark 2019 paper on fast, optimal robotic pick-and-place for moving conveyors (56 citations) provides analytical proofs that simple greedy heuristics can achieve near-optimal efficiency, a result with direct industrial impact. He has also advanced the theory of perimeter guarding, developing polynomial-time algorithms for assigning heterogeneous robots to protect complex 2D boundaries. His recent work on minimizing running buffers for tabletop rearrangement (2023) addresses a fundamental combinatorial challenge in warehouse automation. Feng’s research extends to large-scale UAV coordination in 3D spaces and fully automated metal recycling using computer vision and non-prehensile manipulation. His participation in the ARIAC competition (Team RuBot) demonstrates his commitment to translating theory into practice. With a growing citation record exceeding 100, Feng is establishing himself as a leading voice in optimal, scalable robotic systems.
