About

Shiyao Lu is a leading innovator in the field of soft materials for flexible electronics, with a primary focus on developing advanced polymer-based dielectrics and ionic conductors. Her major contributions address the critical challenge of material stability in stretchable electronics. In her seminal 2019 work, Lu engineered highly stretchable organogel ionic conductors with exceptional tolerance to extreme temperatures, solving a key bottleneck that had previously limited the practical deployment of wearable devices and soft robotics. This paper has garnered 95 citations, reflecting its foundational impact on the field. Prior to this, Lu’s 2018 design of dielectric gels achieved a remarkable and unprecedented combination of ultra-high dielectric constant, low elastic modulus, and excellent transparency—a feat long considered impossible with conventional materials. This breakthrough, cited 90 times, opened new avenues for transparent, flexible capacitors and sensors. Through her innovative use of high-dielectric-constant solvents, Lu has redefined the performance boundaries of soft electronic materials, establishing herself as a pivotal figure in the next generation of wearable and stretchable technology.
