About

Dr. Sang Chul Park is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose work has transformed the surgical management of thyroid cancer, laryngopharyngeal carcinoma, and obstructive sleep apnea. His most significant contributions lie in developing minimally invasive, cosmetically superior approaches to neck dissection. Dr. Park pioneered robot-assisted selective neck dissection via modified facelift and retroauricular approaches, techniques that allow for complete removal of cervical lymph node metastases without visible neck scarring. His landmark 2013 paper on this method (59 citations) established a new paradigm in head and neck oncology. He further advanced the field by comparing transaxillary and retroauricular robotic approaches to conventional transcervical dissection in papillary thyroid cancer (36 citations), demonstrating comparable oncologic outcomes with superior cosmetic results. Dr. Park has also investigated predictors of success in combined tongue base resection and lateral pharyngoplasty for sleep apnea, and evaluated novel 3D endoscopic systems for sinonasal surgery. His work in cell seeding technology for microarray-based analysis of human primary skeletal muscle cells showcases his versatility. With over 100 cumulative citations, Dr. Park continues to shape the future of head and neck surgery by prioritizing both oncologic efficacy and patient quality of life.
