Roberto Pirrone’s research lies at the intersection of robotics, artificial intelligence, and cognitive architectures, with a particular focus on how autonomous systems perceive, represent, and act within their environments. His most influential work addresses the challenge of giving robots a structured understanding of their surroundings: his 2001 paper on “Conceptual representations of actions for autonomous robots” (35 citations) and his 2002 work on “Modeling ontologies for robotic environments” (33 citations) together established a multi-abstraction, ontology-driven framework for representing environmental knowledge.
