About
Rodney Brooks is a pioneering roboticist whose work has fundamentally shaped the fields of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and human-robot interaction. Best known for his "behavior-based robotics" approach, Brooks challenged traditional AI by advocating for robots that sense and act in real-world environments without central, symbolic reasoning. His landmark paper "Sensing and Manipulating Built-for-Human Environments" (2004, 102 citations) introduced a dynamically balancing robot capable of navigating, opening doors, and moving through human spaces—a foundational contribution to mobile manipulation.
